Which email providers does Flyls work with?

The browser extension drives Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail and Zoho Mail. Any other client — Apple Mail, Thunderbird, ProtonMail — works through manual mode, where you paste a tracking pixel in yourself. The extension runs in Chrome, Edge and Firefox.

Is email open tracking accurate?

Partly, and the limits are worth knowing before relying on it. An open is recorded when the recipient mail client loads a 1x1 image. Clients that block remote images record nothing until the reader chooses to load them, so some reads are invisible — to Flyls and to every other tracker. Gmail and most providers also fetch that image through their own proxy, so a reported location is frequently the proxy data centre rather than the reader. Flyls reports what it observed and does not fill the gaps with guesses.

Why does an email show as opened right after I send it?

Because the provider fetched the image, not because a person read it. Gmail warms its image cache as a message is delivered, seconds before anybody has looked. Flyls ignores fetches arriving within a second of the delivery report from the sending provider, and ignores the sender viewing their own sent copy, so neither appears as an open.

Can the recipient tell they are being tracked?

The pixel is a 1x1 transparent image and is not visible in normal reading. Somebody opening the raw HTML of the message can see it, as with any tracked email. On the free plan a small "Tracked by Flyls" badge is added to the message and is visible; every paid plan removes it.

What does the free plan actually include?

Gmail and Outlook, 5 recipients per email, 100 tracked emails and seven days of history. It shows that a message was opened but not the country, the device or the exact open count, and it adds a small badge to the message. No card is required and there is nothing to cancel.

Personal Free is $0. Personal Pro is $3.99 a month and adds Yahoo, up to 20 recipients per email, unlimited history, and the country and device of each open, with no badge. Business Pro is $9.99 a month and adds Zoho, unlimited recipients, link click tracking, manual mode for any email client, and API access with webhooks.

Does Flyls read my emails?

No. The extension adds a tracking pixel as you compose and reads the subject and recipient list so the dashboard can label the message. The body is never sent to Flyls or stored. The IP address of an open is hashed one way and the raw address is not kept.

Question 8

Does tracking work if the recipient uses Apple Mail?

Accepted Answer

Only in part, and this is true of every email tracker. Apple Mail Privacy Protection fetches every image in every message on delivery, whether or not the reader opens it. Flyls identifies those fetches by their user agent and does not count them as opens — which means a genuine open from a protected Apple Mail account is not recorded either. Link clicks still work, because a click is a real navigation.
